Visual welding inspection according to ISO 5817

Is the structure welded and would you like to have it inspected? We do this accurately according to the NEN EN 5817:2014. This means that our certified welding inspectors (IWT & VTw-2) inspect all welding visually and non-destructively. Any destructive inspection is conducted through an independent laboratory. By doing so, we offer you flexibility and a saving in personnel costs.

What is NEN-EN-ISO 5817?

NEN-EN-ISO 5817 is the international standard for welding imperfections. This standard describes the imperfections permissible in welding work. The NEN-EN-ISO 5817 has 3 different quality levels, namely:

ISO 5817 class B

The most stringent quality level is ISO 5817 class B. A very high level is expected from the welder. The welded joint must meet the highest requirements.

ISO 5817 class C

Quality level ISO 5817 class C is the most common.

ISO 5817 class D

The least stringent level of ISO 5817 is class D.

Assessing welding defects according to ISO 5817

These gradations describe which imperfections in the weld are permissible and which are not. There are different ways to assess a weld, destructive, non-destructive or visual. They all use the NEN-EN-ISO 5817 standard to show whether the imperfections are permissible or not. Visually, you can assess the weld using the right measuring tools, knowledge of the standard and a correct report. A certified inspector is often required so that you can also guarantee the inspector's knowledge and skills.
