Master welder course (IWP)

The International Welding Practitioner - or Master Welder - course is for welders who want to deepen and broaden their knowledge of welding. The knowledge gained is practical and therefore directly applicable. You learn more about how materials, welding processes and welding forms react to each other. This knowledge can be translated into various practical applications. Think of checking welding work, anticipating the outcome of welding work, creating effective welding methods and making an effective division of labor among welders on the shop floor.

What can you do after this course?

After completing the Master Welder course, you will have the knowledge and insight that is important when choosing a welding process, quality assurance, work preparation and work execution. These are important skills for a welding foreman or welding coordinator, for example.

For whom is the master welder course?

Welders who would like to advance to a managerial position or broaden and deepen their knowledge.

What do you cover during the course?

The Master Welder training course is drawn up in accordance with the guidelines of the NIL and consists of 150 hours of teaching, spread over the duration of one academic year. Of these 150 hours, 90 hours are theory and 60 hours are practice in the Elektrolas welding school.

The theory is divided into four modules:

  • Module 1: Welding processes and equipment
  • Module 2: Materials and material behaviour in welding
  • Module 3: Construction and Design
  • Module 4: Fabrication and Applications

Of the 60 hours of practice, 40 hours are devoted to broadening skills in welding processes. In this component, students practice welding processes in which they have little or no experience.

The remaining 20 hours are completed by individual practical assignment to be obtained in the welding school. In this part, the student works on one or several pieces of work in preparation for the NIL exam.
