Welder Qualification

With a welder qualification, you can demonstrate that the welders in your welding company have the right skills to perform high-quality and safe welding. It is increasingly common for welding work to meet specific quality requirements. Elektrolas performs welder qualifications according to European and American standards, providing you with absolute certainty about the quality of the welding work in your company.

What is a Welder Qualification?

A welder qualification is a certificate that demonstrates a welder’s professional competence. This certificate is personal and proves that the welder meets all requirements set for their specific professional profile.

Welder qualifications are becoming increasingly important as welding companies are more frequently required to perform welding work according to EN-ISO and AWS standards.

The welder’s manual skill is demonstrated by performing a test weld according to a WPS (Welding Procedure Specification). The welder qualification can expire and therefore needs to be maintained.

Elektrolas Authorized Organization

Elektrolas is authorized by the Dutch Institute for Welding Technology (NIL) to perform welder qualifications. This means that Elektrolas is authorized to organize, conduct, and visually assess welding tests for your welding company.

The Dutch Institute for Welding Technology (NIL)

The NIL is an independent and expert organization that complies with standard EN-ISO/IEC 17024:2012. The certificates welders receive upon successful welder qualification are quality-assured.

Scope of Elektrolas Welder Qualifications

Elektrolas can perform welder qualifications under European and American standards. Contact us, and we will gladly tell you more about these standards.

Welder Qualifications under European Standards:

  • NEN-EN-ISO 9606-1 (steel)
  • NEN-EN-ISO 9606-2 (aluminum and its alloys)
  • ISO 9606-4 (nickel and its alloys)
  • NEN-EN-ISO 14732 (welding machine operator)

Welder Qualifications under American Standards:

  • ASME BPVC.IX
  • AWS D1.1/D1.M
  • AWS D1.6/1.6M

Extending Welder Qualification

The validity of a welder certificate is limited. When obtaining the certificate, you can choose a validity period of 2 or 3 years. A requirement is that every six months, through an extension (stamping), it must be demonstrated that the welder still possesses the specific professional competence.

The more welders you have, the greater the task of keeping track of their qualifications. Elektrolas can support you with this. We have developed an online database where we can manage all welder certificates. Using the system, we identify when welder certificates are about to expire and inform you accordingly. This way, we ensure that your welders undergo new tests in time, preventing their certificates from expiring. This prevents unnecessary surprises or costs. View the benefits of Certibank here.
